“White light and dappled shade. The work of wind on cloud and rain. Crackling ice, and soft quiet snow. Rhythm of cracks in rocks, and smash of waves on smooth sand. Inspiration and excitement for someone making marks on paper.” “White light and dappled shade. The work of wind on cloud and rain. Crackling ice, and soft quiet snow. Mike has worked as an artist and art tutor in the South Devon area for the last twenty five years.

He runs eight courses a week at various venues in the Exeter area, teaching drawing, watercolour and mixed media techniques to some frighteningly talented people! During the winter months the classes concentrate on developing skills for studio work, but in the summer they break out into the local countryside to sketch the beautiful and richly varied scenery of South Devon.

Outdoor sketching is at the core of Mike's art work. He gathers material with sketchbook and camera, which is then fed into the creative process in the studio.

Moor land, craggy coasts, woodland and fieldscapes - all fertilise imagination if you let them! Then see what pours out of the brush on to crisp, sparkling paper...
